I am sure by now you have heard of “life hacks.” The simple things you can do to make your life easier. Here is a list of my favorite ones that I use all the time.
The better part of my day was spent driving around between craft stores and grocery stores, trying to find all the things I need. I hit all these stores up at the same time because they are about 45 minutes away from my house and it is a pain in the rear end to get there and back. Especially with three kids “helping” me in the summer time.
Imagine my disappointment when I sat down this evening to complete a craft and I did not have the right tools to make it happen. The craft was to upcycle my boring old lamp shade and give it a little extra va Va VA VOOM. Okay. So, maybe it just looks a little more interesting, but I am very happy with the end product:
- Stencil – $3.99
- Paint – $1.99
- Round foam brush – $0.00 (woops)
- lamp shade – $0.00 because I have had it for several years
I had my heart set on stenciling this lampshade tonight, so I was bound and determine to make it happen. At first I tried a regular paint brush. Not only did it ruin the paint brush, which I knew would happen, but it just was not as efficient as I would have liked it to be. Luckily, it did not take me long to look at the paper towel roll sitting on the counter and then the light bulb went off. I folded up 2 pieces of paper towels, held it around my two fingers, and dobbed away. Not only was it a great, quick fix, but I think it worked even better than the foam brush would have. I did have to use two sets of folded paper towels because the first one started to fall apart about halfway through.
So there is my simple little craft hack for what to do if you don’t have a foam brush.
